Tobacco Wood Brewing Company has been brewing beer in Oxford, North Carolina since 2018. Our vision was to spark economic growth in Oxford, a small town just north of Raleigh, by creating a gathering place centered around great food, delicious beer, and community connection.
The name comes from the land; Granville County sits in the heart of the old tobacco belt. That history runs deep here, and it shaped the way people in this county think about what they make and how they make it. They know what it means to tend something carefully and then stand behind it. That’s how we brew. Every beer we make is rooted in the state — its places, history, and character. The brewery has become the front porch of Oxford for residents and visitors to begin their lunchtimes, dinners and weekend exploring. Our guiding principles of community building, diverse beverage offerings, and a vibrant atmosphere for live music and special occasions has allowed the dream to endure. Tobacco Wood has served as the venue for new music careers, new food concepts, first dates, engagements, fundraisers, community events and even weddings. As Oxford has grown over the years, we have continued to partner with local businesses and community organizations to celebrate their launches, success and growth.
The brewery production team made an immediate splash in the local and regional beer markets and quickly began taking home numerous medals in Statewide and National brewing contests. In 2021, our Imperial Stout beer took home a Great American Beer Festival Gold Medal. This is the highest accolade available in the craft beer industry in the US. We continue to produce all of our beers in Oxford and have nearly doubled our production capacity since opening. We continue to be a self-distributing brewery and have products in stores from our western mountains to the eastern coast.
In June of 2021, we opened our second location at 2500 Meridian Parkway in Durham, NC. This expansion established the brewery as a regional brand and introduced our products to a new group of customers. The Durham taproom and restaurant have grown into a place for casual local business lunch meetings or an after-work beverage and for families to come and enjoy on the evenings and weekends.
Through the years and all the expansion, Tobacco Wood Brewing Company has maintained its focus as a community partner. It’s also a place where employees love to work and customers feel like family. We strive to be a business that adds value through community service, high quality products and a memorable customer experience.
